If you have been phoning around, you will have noticed the quotes are all over the place. One salon says R800, another says R2500, and nobody explains why. Let me try.
Why quotes vary so much
Most salons charge a flat rate per “length category”, which means a client with fine chin length hair often pays the same as someone with thick waist length hair. The salon builds the risk into the price, and shorter haired clients quietly subsidise longer haired ones.
The product itself is the main cost. Genuine Brazilian keratin formulas are imported and expensive, which is why suspiciously cheap treatments are worth questioning. If a deal is under R500 for long hair, ask what product is being used and whether it is formaldehyde free. Your lungs and scalp will thank you.
How we price it instead
At our studio in Kuils River we measure the actual millilitres of product your hair needs and charge for that. The scale runs from R430 for very short hair up to R1570 for very long, thick hair. Shoulder length hair typically lands around R1090. You see the measurement before we start, and the quote is fixed before any product touches your head.
What should be included
A proper Brazilian treatment includes a clarifying wash, the application itself, sealing with professional irons, and aftercare guidance. If any of those are “extras”, the headline price is not the real price.
One more thing worth knowing: results last 12 to 16 weeks, so it helps to think in cost per month rather than the once off number. A R1000 treatment that lasts four months is R250 a month for wash and go hair. Most clients tell us that maths works out well against weekly blow dry appointments.
