No, and please do not stress about it. A clarifying wash is the first step of the treatment itself, so your hair gets washed in the chair regardless. Arriving with day old or even three day old hair is completely fine.
Why the clarifying wash is part of the job
Before the keratin goes on, we need the hair cuticle open and the strand completely free of silicones, oils, dry shampoo and mineral buildup. A normal home shampoo does not do that. We use a dedicated clarifying shampoo, sometimes twice, and that preparation is half the reason professional results last three to four months.
In fact, washing at home right before your appointment with a regular conditioner can slightly work against us, because conditioners deposit exactly the coatings we then have to strip.
How to arrive for your appointment
- Hair dry and down. It does not need to be clean.
- Skip leave in products, oils and serums that morning.
- Wear a button up or zip top. You will not be able to pull anything over your head for the rest of the day.
- Plan around the time: about two and a half hours for a full Brazilian Blowout.
What about colour?
If you are planning to colour your hair, do it before the smoothing treatment, ideally on the same day or up to two weeks prior. The treatment seals colour in beautifully. Colouring straight after a blowout means the colour has to fight through the sealed cuticle, and results suffer.
Booking both? We do colour and smoothing in one sitting at our Kuils River studio, and you only pay for the product your hair actually needs. WhatsApp us on 068 190 4674 or book online, and bring your questions with you.
