Yes, you can. With the modern formaldehyde free formulas we use, 48 hours is a safe waiting period, and some current products are fine after 24. The old “do not wash, do not tie, do not even sweat for four days” rules belong to an earlier generation of treatments.
Why there is a waiting period at all
The treatment needs time to finish bonding to the hair after it is sealed in. Washing too soon rinses away product that has not settled yet, and you lose smoothness you paid for. Two days is enough for the formulas we work with. When in doubt, ask your stylist what was used on your hair, because the product determines the rule.
Your first wash matters most
- Use a sulphate free, salt free shampoo. This is not optional. One wash with a sulphate shampoo can visibly dull the result.
- Lukewarm water, not hot. Heat opens the cuticle you have just paid to seal.
- Shampoo the scalp, let the foam rinse through the lengths, and skip aggressive scrubbing of the ends.
- Blow dry or air dry fully. Going to bed with damp treated hair in the first week can leave dents.
What about sweat, swimming and gym?
Light sweat within the first 48 hours will not ruin anything, but a soaked scalp works like an early wash. If you train hard, plan the treatment for a rest day or two. Pools and the sea should wait a full week.
If you slip up
Washed at hour 30 and now worried? Do not panic. You may lose a small amount of longevity, not the whole treatment. Just switch to the right shampoo immediately and be gentle for the rest of the week.
